Five red kites born in Aragon (Spain) are guests in the aviaries of Aspromonte National Park

Since July 17, 2025, five young red kites born at the La Alfranca Wildlife Recovery Center in Aragon, Spain, have been guests in the aviaries of the Aspromonte National Park's acclimatization and release center.
Departing from the Spanish center in a van equipped to transport animals, the young birds of prey stopped for a few days at the CERM Centro Rapaci Minaci Thaciati in Rocchette di Fazio (in Tuscany). Here, entrusted to the care of CERM Association staff, the red kites were able to rest and refresh themselves and were fitted with GPS devices.
From CERM, the animals continued their long journey to Aspromonte with the project manager and CERM president. In a few days they will be released into the wild in Aspromonte National Park for the reintroduction program of the species developed under the LIFE MILVUS project.
In 2026 other kites born in captivity in Aragon will be released in Aspromonte thanks to the collaboration of the Gobierno de Aragón and the Centro de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre La Alfranca team.
